what i’m wearing this spring

It finally feels like spring is here! I have always had a love-hate relationship with spring. The blooming trees, flourishing flower buds, and shining sun are bound to pull people out of their seasonal depression. But for me, especially whilst growing up in North Carolina, spring only meant one thing: seasonal allergies. That pesky tree pollen would knock me down, year after year, with sinus infections, ear infections, bronchitis, you name it. Every year I tell myself, “this is the year I’ll start on Zyrtec in January to soften the blow once March comes along.” Now ask me if I’ve started taking my allergy medicine yet? In honor of my first (official) California spring, as well as keeping with tradition, here is what I plan on wearing this spring.

THE INSPO

For fall and winter, I leaned heavily into the “girlhood” trend. Pinks and reds, lace and bows, were all over my “get in my closet” Pinterest board. While I will always appreciate a touch of girliness in my wardrobe, I think spring is the perfect season for new beginnings and aesthetics. I’ve been seeing “Tomboy Chic” all over my Tik Tok FYP.  Tomboy Chic, also known as “Tomboy Femme,” is when you pair traditionally masculine cuts and styles with a feminine edge. For example, a low-waisted baggy jean with a puff sleeve blouse can be categorized under this style. The tomboy aspect of the outfit adds a level of comfort perfect for work and leisure. I know on this blog I’ve been very vocal about my love for all things girly, but at the end of the day, I love comfort more than anything. I am a sucker for a baggy jean, or better yet, a baggy jort. At my previous job (shoutout to Nell MV), anytime a new shipment included a baggy short, my boss immediately deemed it a “Kayla” short. All that to say, the Tomboy Chic aesthetic, is not a foreign concept to my wardrobe.
