an ode to the little white dress

I was going to say summer is right around the corner, but I suppose it’s already here. As a recent graduate (yes, I will continue to say I’m a recent grad until I am settled into my career), I no longer have any conception of seasons. I didn’t realize summer vacation was upon us until I was surprised to see my little brother home from college. I don’t know how I feel about summer. When you’re in school, summer is without a doubt the best season of the year, for reasons I don’t have to spell out for you. But as an adult what are the benefits of summer? I still have to go to work, except now it’s extremely hot and the kids are everywhere. Of course summer isn’t all negative. The longer days, blockbuster films, and Gemini season (obviously) are worth celebrating. But my absolute favorite part of summer? Well, fashion of course. Why else would I be writing this post?

For the last few months, publications have been forecasting what fashion trends will take over the summer. “Tenniscore,” “Office Siren,” and even “1920s Flapper Girl,” have been contenders for THE summer trend of 2024. However, there is one that will always stand the test of time, and that is the Little White Dress. A white dress is the perfect summer staple. I once saw a tweet that said “A white dress is like a blank canvas.” It’s not the most profound statement but it's definitely true. You can pair anything with a LWD: sneakers or kitten heels, cardigan or leather bomber, hair up or down, etc., etc. You get the idea! It’s a low effort way of looking your most put together.
